In the 20th anniversary year of its establishment, the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid is once again launching one of its longest-running and most important programmes, the school supply donation campaign entitled “Let’s Erase the Differences.” The experience of the past two decades shows that starting a new school year presents a significant financial challenge for families every year, especially for those already facing difficulties in their daily lives.

According to various surveys, the cost of preparing one child for the new school year typically amounts to HUF 40,000–60,000 for families today. In the case of children starting first grade, the necessary school supplies, school bags, sports equipment and other items can cost even more.

The aim of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid is to support at least 1,358 disadvantaged students with the essential items needed for the start of the school year. The charity organisation is accepting in-kind donations at its nationwide network of offices until 10 August. The campaign primarily collects new or good-condition school bags, notebooks, stationery, drawing supplies and other school equipment for both primary and secondary school students.

During the summer, there will also be several opportunities to join the initiative through in-store donation drives. In addition, the programme can be supported with financial donations via the adomany.jobbadni.hu website, by bank transfer to 10702019-85008898-51100005, or by calling the donation line 1358.

The Hungarian Reformed Church Aid will organise in-store collections during the second week of August in Budapest, Debrecen, Szeged, Ózd, Hódmezővásárhely, Mátészalka, Balatonfüred, Sátoraljaújhely and Békéscsaba.

We believe that a school bag, a pencil case or a pack of notebooks represents much more than just school supplies: it can mean an opportunity and hope for a child. Through joint efforts, we can help ensure that as many students as possible can begin the new school year with joy, confidence and all the equipment they need.
